July 19 – Reformation of the Heart

Psalm
If we had forgotten the name of our God,
or spread out our hands to a strange god,
would not God discover this?
For he knows the secrets of the heart.
Psalm 44:20-21

Meditation
We need practical, heart searching truth, more than the speculative and philosophic doctrines of the age in which we live. We need a greater reformation of the heart, than of the head, in order to grow up into Christ Jesus, and be as he was, and still is—in order that we may be profitable to the unbelieving world, and at last obtain the eternal inheritance of the saints in light.
Barton W. Stone, Christian Messenger (1843), 180

Scripture
For so the Lord has commanded us, saying, ‘I have set you to be a light for the Gentiles, so that you may bring salvation to the ends of the earth.’” When the Gentiles heard this, they were glad and praised the word of the Lord; and as many as had been destined for eternal life became believers.
Acts 13:47-48

Prayer
Lord, reform my heart so I may praise your name and bring your light to all around me.
